The three of them just sat at the bench and Robin just let his emotion out… Darryl was touched by the love Robin has for Tommy… Not sure how long later before Robin finally stop and recompose himself and continue his story…
“You know moving to Thailand was really not what we wanted at all but all the negativities just make us want to run away to some place where nobody know us and we can finally be ourselves… But it is a tough decision for both of us… To everyone, it seems like we make it so easy but the struggle and friction between us is so great that we almost give up on each other… In fact, we did… That why I went ahead with my trip… We stop contacting each other for almost a month until one day, he called me and tells me how much he misses me and wanted to be with me… I thought he is asking me to leave everything and go back to him in Singapore but I was taken by surprise when he told me he is coming over to me instead…
At that particular moment, I feel not worthy for him. I am unsure about his decision and I told him not to give up everything for me…Perhaps I am feeling inferior about myself and insecure about everything… I am worry… And I mean really worry that what if things don’t work out and he blame me for everything… So I objected to his idea but he was persistence, so in the end he wins…
Within 3 days, he arrived in Bangkok… And our relationship blossom again… Things really didn’t go every well in the first few months due to language barrier… We have a hard time adapting to living together and we argue a lot… The arguments were so intense that we give up on each other for the second time… He went back to Singapore and I continue with my work in Bangkok…We didn’t spoke and keep in contact for almost 6 months. I thought we have both move on but I was wrong… I was miserable… I did go on a few dates with other guys but nothing was like with Tommy…
So I decided to call him again after 6 months, I hesitated at first but in the end I find the courage to do so… And I am glad I did… Apparently, he is feeling the same and that phone conversation change everything from then on…It was then that I told you I fall in love… And that is the reason why you will have the idea that I met him in Bangkok…”
Darryl: “At least now I get the picture…”
Robin: “Sorry that I keep it from you…”
Darryl: “Don’t apologize… I understand totally what you are going through… It never easy for us to be accepted by the general public… and not say about making such a decision to just leave behind everything and start afresh in a country where language is problem…”
Kenny: “Yup… We should be lucky to just have each other as support and not expect too much from others…”
Robin: “I totally agree… That what we started to realize the 3rd time around. We are too concern about how others look at us… We are too afraid of not being accepted by everyone that we lost ourselves in other people view on us… We tried and tried and tried to be accepted that we forget our love for each other…But when we decided to give it a shot the 3rd time, we made each other promise not to give up so easily and think about what we want for the future… And I guess we are very clear about the future….”
Kenny: “Well, 3rd time a charm for both of you…”
Robin: “Yes… It is… And i don’t think I will ever find someone like him… He is my everything… Everything a guy like me is looking for…”
Kenny: “Well, you just have to know that he will always be part of you… No matter how hard you tried, you will not forget him but you live on with him as part of your memory… Though people come and go in our life physically, they will always remain part of our lives…”
Darryl: “I totally agree… These past years are something you will treasure and remember forever… Sometime, it will just appear and make you smile… Sometime, it will make you cry… But whatever the situation is, you remembered…”
Robin: “I know and I miss having him around me…”
Kenny: “He is always around you… He is in your heart… And you know it…”
Darryl took out the necklace he was wearing and hold on to it tightly… Nothing was spoken and exchange anymore… They sat down and watched the sunset together in memory of Tommy…
Robin: “Do you mind going somewhere else with me before dinner?”
Darryl: “Not at all… We are all yours today…”
Robin: “Hahaha… Thanks”
Kenny: “Finally someone is laughing…. Al least we will not end the evening with a sad note”
Robin: “Well… I have the right to be sad right… I am his partner afterall…”
Kenny: “Hey, I never say anything about that but just wanted the evening to end happily…”
Darryl: “Ok ok… Let go to where you want to go and then have dinner ok… So where you want to go?”
Robin: “This place…” He handed Darryl a piece of paper with a route map…
Darryl: “Oh… I really very bad with such thing… Dear, I think you need to be the driver…”
Kenny: “No… You drive and I navigate…”
Darryl: “OK… So let go…”
Following the route lead them to a deserted house… It was kind of eerie even though it was only 715pm… But when they got the place, Robin told them that this is the place, he and Tommy actually make the decision of having a relationship…
Kenny: “Why here?”
Robin: “Remember I told you that we come out at the wrong timing and everybody were against us… Since then, we had been trying to find a place where we can actually be alone… And this is a place where chance upon one day while we were driving around… Though we never come back again after that day, it stills a place that I wanted to revisit.”
Darryl: “Well, it does feel a bit eerie…”
Robin: “It not that bad during daytime though… It actually quite a nice place...”
Darryl: “OK…”
Robin: “Hahaha… Someone seems scare…”
Darryl: “Not really… Just uncomfortable…”
Robin: “OK… Let get out of here ba… Thanks for bringing me here…”
Darryl: “You’re welcome…”
Kenny: “So let go for dinner now… I have made reservation at Sushi Tei in Takashimaya for 8pm… We should be right on time…”
Darryl: “Sushi Tei can make reservation?”
Kenny: “I have my way… Hahaha….”
Robin: “OK… Let go for dinner now…”
Robin tells more about his story before the move to Thailand and how they actually come out to the friends and family… It was very sad to know of the rejection and objection from everyone and how tough it is for the 2 of them to even find time to see each other and the stress of keeping the relationship low profile so nobody knows they are together… During the whole conversation, Robin has not once but numerous time mention how regret he is from coming out… It was the worst decision he ever made in his life, how he destroy everything he has worked for and needed to start afresh in a foreign country…
Listening to these made Darryl wonder is being accepted by other that important in life… Does it really matter that much???? Does it???
